@Zack

We really cant say what happens in 5-10 years. Maybe Barrick is OK maybe it isn't, maybe it does fall apart in 10 years.

We cannot predict the future. In fact no one in the markets does this, no one bothers about looking into far into the future because they dont know. Markets do look into the future as in 3-6 months out but years and years out, they do not do this.

Markets work on cycles, rotation. sometimes the rotation lasts months. Sometimes the rotation is quarterly, yearly.

The trend sometimes lasts decades, sometimes a few years.

All trends die eventually. Some die and then come back.

For now all we know is that gold miners, silver miners are in uptrends. They are starting up again. How long this lasts we do not know, we have zero clue.

Market participants are moving constantly based on information they know or are privy too. It is our job as investors, traders, to jump on their coattails and ride that trend and try to capture as much of it if we are buyers.The same is true if we are selling short. Traders attempt to capture both ends of this, as stocks move roughly a 1/3 up, 1/3 down and the other time do nada at all.

The advantage of a gold miner ETF as an example, is the ability to get a little bit of everything. They work fine so long as you go with the trend. But again, EVERYTHING in the stock market work on cycles. There will be a time when gold miners are dumped and back into a down trend just as they were. This is were the public gets stumped repeatedly and manages to lose their gains or is frequently late when the move starts.

Markets are a study of cycles. Trends come and go as institutions dump and acclimate depending on economic environments.

@mycoguy. Thanks for that info. A few days ago picked up SILJ. Can you tell me if they produce a K-1 form, or how to find out if they do? Thanks.

@yup You speak of cycles and watching where the money goes. I've spent days reading over just gold miners. How does one know where the money is moving in a limited amount of time to look? There must be thousands of stocks to monitor.

@zack

not really.

What you do is make a stock screener and every single day after the market close you plot out which stocks are making 52 highs and which are making 52 lows. The stock screeners show you stocks at 52 highs, those are being bought and accumulated and it breaks it down by industry group.

IT works the same way as stocks are being distributed (being dumped, sold off) by the market. You avoid stocks, industry groups at 52 lows as those sectors are not in favor and being sold off.

pretty easy stuff. Probably the hardest part is the amount of time it takes to do this but it can be done if you have the time and want to know where the money is going or leaving. I do it every day for many years now as a trader. EVery single person who has money in equity markets SHOULD be doing this, whether you have 1,000 dollars or 1,000,000+.

just a few notes here-

Silver- pretty resilient price action this week.

We can thus far see two things

1- Silver has a new range now. 16 is for now the lower end of the range.

2- It had every chance for the past two days to give up its b/o and yet it was bought up each day and held on.

Lets see if silver closes out the week strong. Your eyes should be on silver to see if it breaks 16.34

At this rate and with more time, silver will be slowly creeping up on its yearly highs.

Gold continues with its range bound sideways trade.

@yup. You da man!! Read up on the stock screener, used the one on Finviz.com. Couldn't figure out how to access it on Charles Schwab. Anyway, Entered filter for volume over 200,000, US stocks only, I went with over $2 even though I know you said stay above $10 and also changed % change so they were listed from highest to lowest. Got the sticker codes, sold some that was stagnant and used the revenue to buy the stocks I liked, biotech and gold miners. Course there was charges for ever stock I sold, and every one I bought, so was depressingly in the red, but within 15 minutes I'm $40 in the green. Thank you for the education. :-)

no problem glad you find the screener useful. That is where you will know how to sell, what to buy. Keep in mind ALL stocks come and go.

just a few thoughts here, hope to fit in some charts in this weekend.

Silver, what a week eh?

Finally broke above 16 and stayed ABOVE IT. Thats the take away from last week. The previous times silver gave it up fast after hitting the upper end of the range.

This time, it hit it AGAIN, broke into it, pulled back, but this time it stopped at the lower end of the previous HIGH end of the range (16) and then attempted a move higher over it. It still the week ABOVE the high end of the previous range, which again, was 16.

That my folks, is clear and obvious buying. Buyers are in control, as they were when they pushed prices highers back in 3/17. Lets see if this new range offers sideways chop OR does it push back below it.

Very constructive price action on the part of silver and it tells us buyers are in control.

Gold is now playing second fiddle to silver. Why? I have no clue. Thats just how markets are. At the end of the day it doesn't matter. Gold still is fine, still in an up trend and still range bound, which is not a bad thing.The range is as follows - 1263.90 on the high end and 1196.30 on the lower end.

Is this sudden rise across the board in PM's something to do with the weaker USD or is it all buyer driven?

China Gold Exchange opened with new price system, forcing world spot up...we knew this was coming...they will eventually kill comex...only good news for a more realistic spot price, without futures, and, possibly, manipulation
