Using Coin Sniper?

Whizb4ng - thanks for the feedback! I have toyed with foreign and ancient coins, and I do hope to list some in the future, when I have a big enough collector base to support it.

It is confusing at first, I completely understand that - it's totally outside the realm of what we're used to. And I fully acknowledge and attest that I've had to apply some strange rules to the site that are outside the norm of the "penny auction" world, as well. This has all been driven by customer feedback with the goal of providing a more fun, more successful customer experience.

Despite this, I know that while a lot of customers have a great experience when they get things figured out, there are customers that do not have a great experience. I cannot control any facet of the auction, it's really down to the bidders and how things work out. I do everything I can to keep customers, and when I lose one I do my best to make sure that in leaving they leave as happy as I can make them.

I have a few more things to do, and chief among them is explain the site better. For now, the best way is to watch the auctions as they happen.

I have noticed the button for Coin Sniper and just assumed it was a coin specific auction site built like ebay. Reading the descriptions here has me very very intrigued and I will be looking into it soon!

carmykle, I was reading your quote and it made me think of something I recently read: "Money doesn't solve all of your problems, but it solves your money problems." Hehehe... was a statement made by a person that had significant money problems because they had too much money!

Anyway, let's look at how things went this week - not for everyone, but for the auction winners. Every day of the week, there was numismatic silver sold below melt, including the cost of shipping. Sometimes significantly so!

Past performance does not guarantee future results. Everyone I've talked to is having fun, but of course I don't hear from everyone. The highlight of the week so far is an 1860 O Half Dollar that sold for a total cost to the buyer (including shipping) of about $24. That doesn't account for grouped or consolidated shipping, which will alleviate some of the shipping cost. The coin grades (to me) Very Fine details, net Very Good for damage, and I value it around $40.

Yesterday, a low MS Franklin sold to an experienced buyer for a total cost of about $8 shipped; again, that does not account for grouped shipping. It's a '55 I grade around 62, I value it around $25.

I've worked very hard to make sure that the only people not getting anything are the ones that don't take the time to figure it out. I do my best to provide excellent service to both those who become good and those who are unable to get it figured out. You can't please everyone all of the time, but I sure try.

This is something new and different, I consider each of my customers as if they walked through the door into my physical shop, and I try to treat them with the same respect as I would anyone were I running a physical shop. I consider everyone as helping me do something fun and different, they're all part of our journey to make the site a success.

My customers' success is what I'm after, and I hope to gain a little success of my own by facilitating. The jury is still out. There are those who are nervous or scared to try something different, something new, and I totally understand and respect that sentiment. There are others who are willing to give it a try, and I do what I can to reward those people who help my business become successful.

Silver' , that is one question I have as well.
I was thinking this was something on ebay where your bids are posted for you. I am somewhat confused, these are separate auctions that Rusty is putting up himself, at least that is what I'm thinking.
I'm interested, BUT if those coins I see currently on there are our choices than I'm not as interested.
I'm just lost on this........but it is interesting.

I am buying the coins. At this time I'm not taking others' consignments. Also, sadly, because of my shipping costs and arrangements, I'm not yet able to do International shipments - not even to Canada. Looks like you're from Spain, so I'm afraid we can't do business yet.

The auctions change every day. You can see in the "Upcoming Numismatic Auctions" which coins are planned, generally for the next week. At the bottom of the section, there is a link to "view all". I'm currently working on posting next Thursday's and next Friday's auctions on the site.

There are numbers underneath each coin image - this timer represents a countdown clock for the time until the auction ends. When the timer reaches zero, the auction is "on the block". It is open for bidding for usually about a day in advance of the auction, but the final bids are always placed at or AFTER the countdown timer reaches 00:00:00. If you're interested in watching - and some people do find it great entertainment to watch - show up when the timer is around 0 and see what happens. Sometimes not a whole lot, sometimes bidding commences and it's exciting to see who will win.

Don't know if this thread is still being monitored but am I correct that a person doesn't start bidding until the countdown timer reaches zero?
