Check ebay for these ones. All but the wolf can be bought below issue price (for me in Quebec with 15% tax rate)... even the last sub box + 4 coins was sold at issue price, at 555$ including shipping. I really like them myself... I like the color of it, but 140$ a pop is way too much. Near 100$ would be fairly priced IMO.

Am I correct in thinking new one shouldn't have tax as it is 99.99%.

Quote: Am I correct in thinking new one shouldn't have tax as it is 99.99% Depends where you live. In BC, we are charged 7% PST even on pure silver coins except for the $20 for $20 and $100 for $100 coins.

Quote: Am I correct in thinking new one shouldn't have tax as it is 99.99%. If this is confirmed as pure silver, then yes you're correct, no taxes. Actually, it would depends of the quantity of niobium as pure silver is defined as 99.9% or more in silver, so in theory, if there is more than 0.01% of niobium in the coin composition, it should be taxed... but not sure how it works, as coins like the Treasures of Australia (which have a plastic (or glass?) insert with some gems in there) would probably be under 99.9% silver for the whole content. But I guess it enters as "packaging" or something. Anyway, if the coin is really pure silver: NO tax.

Based on the CP catalogue, it appears that the new niobium is NOT tax exempt. I'd say, at $139.95 plus tax (that whopping $158.14 in Ontario) plus shipping if you're not MC, this coin is an Epic Fail!
Doesn't look very good to me in the photos either (though it could be much different in hand).

I posted this in the June release thread...but the new niobiums are taxable despite the 99.99% Pure Silver.

I like the coin, but it'll cost close to 161 dollars for me if it isn't tax free. I'll have to think about it some more.

This coin just got even worse. It's 20 dollars more than the last niobium series, it comes in a clamshell rather than a 'wooden' display and there is no option for a subscription for the set. In fact, I don't even see how many coins will be issued in the series. (That is one of my new pet peeves with the mint lately - open ended series where they don't reveal how many coins are planned for the series so you can't calculate the total cost of collecting the whole series.)
It's also extremely bugly in my opinion. I would be shocked if they sell even half of the 6500 mintage.

Quote: but the new niobiums are taxable despite the 99.99% Pure Silver. The coin has to be 100% pure 99.99% silver to be tax exempt. These coins have a niobium center, so they are not 100% pure silver, and therefore taxable. There is also an update on the Mint's web site saying there was an error describing the coin, and it is indeed taxable. (...applicable taxes apply...)

I agree, this coin is really not attractive at all. The mint's pushing their limits with higher prices, worse product as CC-Ottawa pointed out, no wood case this time. I also don't see them adjusting prices for the market value of their raw materials. Silver is down 30% plus in the last couple of months and no pass through to their clients........? IMO they're getting close to the point of buyer backlash. Lets see if they keep selling out product with this limit of 1 on so many items too.

I like the moon coins as they are nice and simple. This one, I have a tough time seeing the two head. LoL

interesting to see the differences between pics from the mint and colonial acres. I think I like the pinker one better but suspect the coins will look more like the RCM photo. RCM: Colonial Acres:

Quote: CC-Ottawa Posted 05/30/2013 09:58 am In the next few days, the Dinosaur will likely sell out, the Ag Allegory might sell out, the Loiusbourg could sell out but if the niobium does sell out, I'll eat my shorts. (not really - I'm not doing that.... again) Well, one comment at the Mint site says: "This is The Canadian mints Coin of the year Don't miss out on this one Best design and workman ship very fine detail The Mint is only selling 1 per customer if they sold them the way they use to they would sell out before the public would have a chance. Niobium is like Gold today it is a very scarce Product and expensive So don't let the price scare you This is a Great investment coin all around and should sell out quickly".
