I believe that lens should work fine with your A350, but your camera won't display Live View using Imaging Edge. Visit link below to see supported A-Mount cameras:

Tamron vs. Sigma 90mm macro lens. Preference? Other good brands to consider? New macro lens on Amazon were TOO expensive. Looking at used now.

darn! I saw that chart and just saw the check mark in the first column and didn't look at the rest of the chart and assumed (I know what happens when you assume!) it meant the A350 was compatible with all the features. Thank you so much for pointing that out. I will now have to reconsider my approach to this situation and what direction I want to go.

You have to be applauded for all the help and direction you provide to this forum (and I am sure others) for people just starting out (and mid range to experts as well). A big Thank You!

You are welcome!

Edited to add: ceteris paribus, I would choose Sigma.

I think I am back on the <$400 kit.
Comments on Rebel XS vs. XSi.

XSi on ebay with 8,289 SHUTTER;

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CANON-EOS-...AOSwWVBeVXjl

versus XS at KEH

https://www.keh.com/shop/rebel-xs-b...0-m-p-1.html

XS is rated EX for $69.60
XSi is $79.99

Is 8289 shutter use good, bad, mediocre?

The XS is 10.2MP, 3888x2592. The XSi is 12MP, 4,272 x 2,848. So cropped square, your full size images are 2592 vs 2848 pixels, or about 10% bigger. Won't make much difference.

I have never tried an XSi so can't comment about mechanics or durability comparisons.

8289 is a good low shutter count, but it is still high enough that if the user was not careful, the camera could have a lot of cosmetic wear. When I am buying an XS, I look at the rubber grip to see if it is worn. I only buy cameras with near perfect cosmetics.

This objective might be a bit better than the M5 for coins due to the longer working distance, though the M5 is tough to beat for image quality. It is probably of Chinese origin, but one of the best 4x objectives I own was made in China, so I am origin-agnostic:

At $27.50, you really can't go wrong with this one.

After reading all the posts in this incredible thread, I've decided to take the plunge and try the recommended setup.
So far I have purchased the following:
Canon 50D $150
M42-EOS Adapter-$19.57
M42 to M42 42mm Screw Mount Adjustable Macro Focusing Helicoid 35mm-90mm Adapter-$26.87
Nikon EL-Nikkor 75 4.0 Screw On Micro Lens (Apertures 4-45) Olympus Adapter-$22.62
Canson Opalux Translucent Paper-$12.16
I have a tripod. I would like to get a copy stand, but can't justify the cost.
Canon EOS Utility and Liveview software-free

My question is about the Jansjo LED lights, which I can easily find on Ikea, but they are USB lights as opposed to the Navlinge LED Lights which come with wall warts.
The Jansjo USB's are super cheap, but I don't have enough USB ports on my laptop to suport these.
Is it OK to use the Navlinge which appear to be exactly like the lights I've seen on this post?
Thanks,
Jon

I have a couple of the Navlinge. I have not fully evaluated them but so far they appear to be an upgraded Jansjo with COB LED, so should work great.

Are you handy with a drill and hacksaw? If so you could build a small copy stand quite easily. PM me if you want to know details. I have not put together a parts list or instructions yet but have intended to do this for a while to complement this thread.

Thanks rpmsrpms for your response and I would be grateful for information on building a copy stand. I am pretty handy in the shop and own a drillpress and a hacksaw. I do not have a tap and die set, but I could probably borrow one from a friend. Unfortunately, I don't think I am allowed to PM anybody until my post count is higher, so I'm not sure how to get that info from you.

OK, maybe I'll just put together the parts list and instructions. Will take a little time.

I took a quick look at the costs of the copy stands I have been making, and indeed they are not particularly cheap to build. I source parts in enough volume to offset the shipping costs, so overall cost stays OK. What I'd recommend is something like my System-X, which consists of a wood base (~$15), Aluminum column (~$20 + typically $15 shipping), Column hardware (~$10), Arca clamp (~$20), and Arca Rail (~$15). The camera would mount where the bellows sits. Total cost with tax and shipping is ~$95.

I'll contact you on your website for the system you recommend.
Thanks!
