1721 1 rupee No date, regnal year 3 (under the circle counterstamp) AH1134/1721AD 12th Mughal emperor: Muhammad Shah (AH1131-1162/1719-1748). Birthname: Roshan Akhtar Bahadur (AH1114-1162/1702-1748AD) Mint: Arkat. This coin is slightly rarer than the other coins of Muhammad Shah. The East India Company occupied Arkat and made coins under the name of Shah Alam II Counterstamps are from business men who accepted this coin as a method of payment   |

NumisRob, where did you get your coins from? I do struggle to find places that sell coins. In the UK there doesn't seem to be much in between ebay on one hand and expensive auction houses on the other. |

1719-1748 India 1 rupee ND 12e Mughal emperor : Muhammad Shah (1719-1748). Born as Roshan Akhtar Bahadur (1702-1748AD) Obverse: "Muhammad" in the center. "Hasan" in above right corner. "Hussain" in the bottom right corner. "Ali" on the above left corner and "Fatima" on bottom left corner. Reverse: kalima (poem : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Kalimas ) This is Shia Token. Shia is one of the major sect of Islam which believes that Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law Ali should have been given the opportunity to be caliph after Muhammad's death. Prophet Muhammad had 3 sons and they died in childhood. He had 4 daughters and Fatima was the favourtive daughter.   |
