Awesome lot TIF. I like them all a lot.

Every time I see you post a lot I am like 'I should buy a decent lot one time' and knowing me I will get burned and not have near the success you do.

Nice lot TIF. Byzantines don't have enough of a pull for me to buy, but I like to look at other peoples.

TIF, if you don't already have it and you want to spend a little more money, there is a cheap used copy of the current edition of Sear's Byzantine Coins & Their Values for sale at an on-line auction right now... the site is agoraauctions dot com, under the books for sale. The bidding at the moment is $48. Used copies retail for $70 or thereabouts.

Thanks for the lead, John. A few people have recommended that book if I'm only going to get one Byz reference. I will order it. There's also a used copy on Amazon for the same amount so we'll see.

After a few hours of wildwinds, CNG archives, and Vcoins, I'm ~2/3 through matching the envelopes with coins, although I still have many questions and want to verify everything to a greater degree.

Loving the Leos!

Haven't yet sorted through the Christ coins and most of the smaller denominations. Did ID two of the small ones though and they turned out to be pretty interesting. Looks like the first and third coins (from left) on the last row are Justin I pentanummia. I have the reverses upside down in the picture.

With Tyche and a river god on the reverse, this type of coin may be the last Roman issue with pagan gods.

A similar coin from wildwinds:

Byz-Biz...-A-Big-Batch-Of-Bronze.--And-A-Tiny-Gold.

Cool beans! If you do purchase the other copy you found, just be certain that it is the most current 1987 edition (the one with the pinkish-purple dj) and not the earlier 1970(?) edition.

Best,
John
