Thanks for the link Arianzo. May come in handy. The one thing I would like to see on ebay is whenever a buyer attempts to leave a neutral or negative feedback they are forced to contact and inform the seller of their intentions. This would at least give the seller a chance to do something about it. I had one instance where the buyer claimed that the coin had a scratch. This is entirely possible and I did not refute her claim. I would have gladly replaced the coin at no cost. I eventually gave a full refund and told the buyer to keep the coin anyway. Again, one case of a sad situation. That one went straight to my blocked list.

Wow! This and the associated thread have been very informative reading. I doubt I would have ever sold on ebay, anyway, but this shows I probably am not cut out for doing so! I am horrified at reading what Canadian_coins has had to deal with, especially as he seems like a straightforward seller. I can't help with this situation, but I will continue to be a "good" buyer--i.e. pay promptly after winning an auction or buy it now--so I don't add to the headaches of sellers I deal with. There are many of us buyers who really appreciate the opportunities to buy the coins you are selling, me definitely included!

Trust me ravenzcoin, there are many more frustrations as a seller. For instance - one recent transaction: Buyer - still haven't received the coins so I want my money back Seller - USPS shows it was received two weeks ago Buyer - I don't have them, I want my money black Seller - ok, full refund is on its way. Moral, even with tracking ebay sellers have no leg to stand on. Seller protection? There is no such thing. The other problem is LOW SCORES for shipping and handling. This is one thing that is so frustrating for sellers. The shipping cost is CLEARLY STATED on the auction and the buyer is fully aware of the cost BEFORE placing a bid. As a matter of fact, I always lose money on shipping (since ebay applies fees on shipping costs) yet I occasionally receive low scores for high shipping costs, particularly when shipping to canada. My MINIMUM cost to Canada is $2.25 postage via ebay Shipsaver then it goes up from there. So I charge $2.99 which also includes supplies and handling. Apply the ebay and PayPal fees then I'm under water. Figure a bubble envelop is about 50 cents, gas, time, .... Gosh.

If you ship it the way you said you should they shouldnt even be allowed to rate that. Its not like its a surprise at the end. If they can rate something as dumb as that how about letting sellers rate buyers payment speed

^^ totally agree.
In fact I believe that ANY low scores should go through some form of arbitration. I would gladly show my true shipping costs to any buyer. I absolutely lose money there.
The other frustration? Shipping time... Again, shipping to canada... Customs delays are outrageous yet the seller is at fault. There should be no option for rating shipping out of the US, plain and simple.

canadian_coins: I don't understand why you refund someone where the tracking says that it's delivered. Up to I know, ebay protects you up to $300 is there is a tracking number and more than $300 with signature.

Quote: There should be no option for rating shipping out of the US, plain and simple I stopped shipping internationally a while ago, but I definitely agree with that. Its not really your fault if it gets hung up at customs or theyre working slow. One of the last things I sent to Canada took over a month to get there for some reason, thankfully it was a rational buyer or I'm sure I would have gotten all 1s.

@arianzo, I will call ebay and inquire. I do everything from ebay, and the transaction details even showed it was delivered. Yet, the only option I had was to refund the buyer. In every single case (lost items, back charges, fraud, paypal or ebay) I've pretty much lost on all counts. But thanks for the info, I'll let you know how things turn out. I'm sure this will take a while to get resolved. I had one recent case of a buyer who won a gold coin but wanted me to ship overseas. I only ship in US/canada. I opened the case to cancel the transaction on the basis of the shipping destination. We all know this is a red flag for fraud. Anyway, the buyer REFUSED to cancel the transaction. So I had to fight for MONTHS to regain legitimate ownership of my coin so I could offer second chance or to put it on the market again. I eventually got the case closed, sold the coin - thankfully to a US resident, at lower price mind you but at least a no-problem transaction. HOW-E-VER, my dear friends at ebay WOULD NOT issue a refund for the first transaction final fees ($100.00). I paid those fees twice, on the same COIN! How ridiculous is that? I had to fight for 6 months to get a refund... Pardons me, a CREDIT that would be applied on future billing cycles. Absolutely outrageous. Oh and on top of that, of course the buyer left me plenty of low scores and a HUGE negative feedback. It took a presidential approval to remove that negative feedback. Again, goes to show the seller has little protection. Nothing is automatic. You must fight every step of the way.

I believe you have to have signature confirmation on anything over 200 dollars for the seller protection

Well, Arianzo is 100% correct. Tracking would have protected me. But because I refunded the buyer the case is closed and my seller protection is forfeited. I tried to appeal the case... Somehow I knew this wouldn't work. eh... since the case was never escalated there is really no "decision" to appeal. Tough luck. So..... I should have waited 3 days without doing anything and that would have triggered escalation. ebay would have taken over and reviewed the case. And only THEN the notion of "seller protection" would have come up. This is a very good learning experience. As I pointed out to the appeal person, this was not mentioned to me when I reviewed the case. My only option was to refund the buyer. There was no such thing as "wait 3 days to get seller protection". Goes to show, the entire eBay/PayPal seller experience is frustrating... but this is the price to pay for doing business I suppose.

These are the reasons to educate yourself by reading the seller forums on .com & .ca. I have learned so many ways to avoid potential potholes in the ebay system on both sites. I've only been selling 1.4 years, and have only really ever had one troublesome incident posted about in this thread . There is so many I 's &T's to make sure to take care of, it's a continuous educational effort. So many things you never consider until it happens to u. The ebay seller forums are populated by people , such as here, willing to help navigate the ebay world and share their guidance, when issues arise. I strongly suggest both seller & buyer read the seller/ buyer forums located under community on ebay pages. @ Canadian coins, I'm truly sorry to hear about your recent experiences, especially the refund one. Ask a question on the seller forum maybe someone will have a suggestion. They even have a coin forum under groups, on .com. There are 3 dealers that Are regulars.
