I just returned those coins to the bank, and apparently today they don't have many circulation wrapped coins. I got 3 rolls of nickels and a loonie and $15 in cash. The teller said it would be pretty much a hit-and-miss, depending on the supply and demand. He said I could call before I come and have them check if they have any in stock, though. The last roll I opened, the first thing that came out was a 1999 Jefferson nickel and I think it's a good sign, and in it there are a lot of nickel nickels Question, is it worth to keep 2000-2006 cupro-nickel nickels? Rackster: I'll probably be able to go every day in the weekend if I'm not busy. Haven't found any errors/varieties though so far, guess I'm not very lucky for them. Normic67: Good luck, from Ontario. Update us about it shadz: I won't be able to afford the cost and time to go across the border. I'm an abroad student.

I don't know how your able to get pennies but I went to 2 branches today and they both said that they were not allowed to distribute them anymore. I'm scared to do it in the U.S.A. because with the amount of shield cents minted in the last couple of years I would expect the worst, and I only go there ounce a month.

@SlurExe97:
Keep looking! It takes a while to find the good stuff. I don't know about Canada, but here in the States quantity usually = quality.

Normic87: I have the same problem with TD and they said they are allowed to take pennies but not give them out because they are withdrawn from circulation. I'm just thinking, what if a petition be made to return pennies to circulation, do you think it would work? I've found quite a lot of shield cents in Canadian change myself. I did take a couple, but that was just because I needed to round the amount since I don't have pennies then.
BernieZ: I was only able to get a roll of quarters and nickels today. Apparently that branch of bank (the nearest to me) had run out of circulated rolls after I went there 4 days in a row. They even offered me some rolls with the unopenable plastic, the same ones that I have received before because they have the X mark with permanent marker on them...

Slur - one of the tricks of the CRHing trade is not to 'dump' in your coin stream. As you noted, you don't want to search rolls you either searched or didn't search because they were newly minted coins. You may want to designate one branch your 'dump' site where you return searched coins and keep the other branches available for new/turnover coins. If you do a little research, you might be able to determine which branch does the collecting and selloffs of returned coins. I have one near my home, so this is my dump site. I use the other three branches to get fresh coins. By bank policy (my bank anyway), coins turned in by customers at branches without coin counters are sold off to coin outfits like Dunbar where they can be counted and rerolled. I offered to buy them anyway, but policy forbids it.

That is the only TD bank within my walking distance, actually. I don't really want to spend having to go on a bus to go to to the mall where the other branch is too often. I only usually go there once a week on the weekend. I might find out a coin dump site though and hopefully it's not too far.
I'm just wondering, how can a bank actually run out of coin rolls?

That's probably because of how the dollar is so low right now, iv been finding a lot of American coins too actually. I think that if we started a petition it would probably be all coin roll hunters and coin collectors. Iv already tried TD, I went to BMO.

I don't really understand how the value of money can go up and down (except when they print too much money it makes the money weak) so I don't really get it, how can banks run out of coin rolls that way. So if will be signed only by collectors it won't work?
Yeah I guess so. Perhaps I'm not the only CRHer there... Who knows? But I think I am, the tellers kind of look confused when I asked them for and returned so many coin rolls. I've only just started last week.

I never dump where I buy boxes of coins.

I appreciate Slur's issue so a solution will need to be worked out with a teller at the bank. A plan like this may not work in every instance, but it might reduce the number of times you pick up your dumped coins.
For a time, I dumped at the bank I got the rolls of coins at and moved to the next branch. The rotation wouldn't have me going back to a branch but once a month. However, this plan was defeated the first time I arrived and found fresh mint rolls (all 2013s). The next branch had the same, so I ended up going back to a branch I dumped at 2 weeks prior. They still had my searched rolls. So, now that I know which bank serves as the return hub, I dump there and keep my other branch streams pure(ish). It's learning the system and picking tactics that suit your needs.

How do I work it out with a teller? If I go to the bank, every time I will be served by a different person. The time and place I can go to is usually not regular. It sort of depends where I go depending on what I need this week. Edit: Just got back, they have rolls today! And a rather worn 1987 loonie.
