Return it if you can. Next time post before you buy if not familiar with the holder. Just a learning lesson.

You paid too much for a circulated/cleaned coin. If the seller accepts returns, return it but anyway report him/her and keep us informed of the results. By the way NCG stands for Not Coin Graders or something like that. Sorry.

Don't beat yourself up to badly. Just pop it out of the holder & put it in an air-tite. Most people would rather have a raw coin than something slabbed by an unknown entity. It's still a very attractive coin.

Return it asap. I'd mention the bums junk slabs in the feedback too. These guys sicken me. I looked at this seller's completed listings and there are dozens of junk slabs with ultra-high grades prominently imaged in each one. Some sold for over $400! Anyway I wouldn't "let it slide" in this case. YOu paid a lot of money for a $30 coin. Send it back through the proper channels and note they do offer "Hassle Free Returns" on at least some of their listings.

As far as if you should keep it, it kind of depends if you can return it; if you can, then do it. First of all, in MBA school we learned to look at once money is spent on something in inventory, no matter what it's worth it is considered a "sunk cost", meaning it is what it is, and you need to look at it for what it is. There's nothing you can do to make it worth more or less than it's market value. So, if it fits into your collection, then keep it. If it's actual grade is less than acceptable to you, sell it for what you can and eat the probable loss and then buy one you like. I know that sounds a bit hard unforgiving, but again, it is what it is. With a couple of my college degrees, I've heard of the field of studies as "painful studies of the obvious," and I'm sure my advice feels like that. I wish you good luck with it.

You are all suggesting he "report the seller". For what, exactly? Because the buyer didn't do his homework?

Quote: You are all suggesting he "report the seller". For what, exactly? Because the buyer didn't do his homework? Well it depends, if the seller was misrepresenting the coin as being graded by NGC, which it seems that way from the sellers response, then he very well can and should be reported. However, if he listed it as an NCG graded coin, then theres no basis to report him. We would need to see the actual auction to know whether or not it was misrepresented.
