I am 99% sure it is a Pf coin. but has anyone a clue what it is worth? the Daughter wants to sale a bunch of coins that she took out of the till at work. (she paid face not took lol) the Red Book has this one at $90.00 in PF this coin is obviously not PF so I don't have a clue what it would sale for.
Thanks all
Gary

Gary, Proof has nothing to do with the condition of the coin. Proof is a description of the process by which a coin is minted so a proof coin will always be a proof coin regardless of how much wear or damage occurs. To me, this looks like a proof. Ben's hair, the Liberty bell, and the eaglet are sharply detailed indicating a proof strike but a remote possibility one heck of a full MS strike.

I cannot tell from the photos if any hairlines or light wear is present, but assuming it is since it was found in a cash register, the Heritage Value Index lists PR58 1955 @ $23-31 and PR63 @ $35-45. I would recommend a dip in acetone. It might remove the haze and won't harm the coin. If the haze is removed by acetone and the mirrors are restored, do not rinse with water just another dip in clean acetone. Water, regardless of whether it is distilled or not, will leave water spots on proofs.

Thanks Bio. yes I know the ms pf thing for the later coins but the 50's to some of the 60's have them pf coins that are a bit harder to tell. I put the coin in a jar of acetone yesterday and it is looking very nice. the haze is gone and the coin looks almost like a pf of today I do see one very minute line on the obv though where it took a hit or something. not a ding but what looks like a very small maybe a half MM scratch but it has to be magnified to see it and there was what looked like a finger print on the rev but it is gone so it was just spent very recently otherwise the print would have been another part of the coin.
thanks
Gary
