Quote: I agree every post office I've been in are overstocked and the website has tons to boot. CP in my area has even 2015 1oz Superman coins...for issue. Thinking very carefully, came to conclusion, that not interested in any coin, only is some 1oz's will be priced CAD 30-40 (that will not happen)

Even if CP discounts most of the coins at 30%, which I guess is close to their cost, would anyone care?

didnt silvertowne also have black friday sales last year, seems they carry a ton of RCM product. my only thought here is in line with someone else above me who said basically 20-25% isn't a big deal anymore. To me, I know a coin is getting slashed when its 40-50% off....

Sad thing is even if Silvertown has 40% savings, each US dollar is about 33% extra with the exchange rate! I'm starting to wonder if I should start selling on ebay again just to get some US dollars to make purchases with. While I was in hospital my 16 yr old used the $133 US funds I had from sales a year ago. All his online game needs are in US funds which sucks right now. I refrain from purchases unless in cad funds. So translation I buy very little non essential goods.

Personally I still prefer buying from CP even if there is less discount because if there is anything wrong with the coin, I can return it for refund with little to no hassle. I don't think we can get that kind of service from other dealers, ebay or private sales. But I could be wrong, so if anyone know of any dealer offering no hassle return and refund, please share.

I'm hoping CP will have silver dollars on sale. I've decided to keep up with this collection. The coins are historically meaningful and usually well done. It seems from this thread and others, collectors have learned to be very skeptical of the mints offerings and even more so of the issue prices! Now it remains for all the grandparents in mint reviews to do like wise. Dealers must at some point all reject the sheer volume foisted upon them, as it represents tied up resources. I've noticed foreign dealers reducing their offerings of RCM coins.

Don't forget the biggest RCM has 30% or more to work with, that's 30.00 on a average coin. dealers should make profits but 30%.

John, being on the business side of things, most retailers wont touch anything unless there is at bare minimum 30% margin. Most retailers want more like 35 to 40%, and on items like clothing or bedding the margins are actually more like 110%. don't blame the retailer, the issue is with the costing from RCM, however they are also in business to make a profit.

Agreed. 30% on a low volume retail item? I'm surprised coin stores can keep the lights on especially with todays hydro rates.
I think it's only a matter of time before one of the larger dealers closes it's doors.

Why is the RCM only making average 2 to 3 % return the last few years, some retailers do massive markups but these are monopoly items. Like I said all retailers has to make profits, but on a 500.00 coin it's up to 150.00 a little excessive that we are paying for as collectors.

The simple answer is they make more than 2-3% on NCLT. A large portion of their 'business' is profit neutral given that circulation coins are provided to the GoC without generating profit. One simply cannot logically conclude that all business lines generate profit at the same rate and the RCM does not report profit by product line so actually profit breakdown is unknown. NCLT is a tiny portion of their revenue base yet most suspect it produces a disproportionate share of the reported total profit. That said, my opinion is the RCM is bloated at the top and spends excessively on admin and marketing of it's NCLT products and that eats away at profits. For some reason, the RCM's only shareholder, the GoC (you and me) don't seem to question why profits are so small. We are simply happy that the Mint doesn't 'cost' us as taxpayers.
