The RedBook is ideal for the pure COLLECTOR, and that's about it... It will give you a somewhat accurate idea of what your coins are worth, neat additional information, and help you sleep better at night knowing what you've got.

If you choose to sell your coins then I would advise checking the internet, and other more current sources for value information.

Yes, the RedBook has some errors and they will never be fixed but for basic 101 level information it can't be beaten.

Welcome to the hobby gmtech! I personally would NOT use the Red Book as a price guide. Once a year valuation is not keeping your finger on the pulse of the business. If you want the price guide that coin dealers use, refer to the Coin Dealer Newsletter, also called the greysheet. Much, much more accurate pricing there. It's not cheap but can save you many dinero. Whip out a copy of this at a coin shop and the dealers smile evaporates as he realizes that you're not going to be taken advantage of.
