I figured a '39 for page 39 of an absolutely stellar CB thread, Moe. Completely by luck it was the closing coin for page 39.

Quote:The apparent agonies the US Mint went through to mint our favorite coin of all time: The Capped Bust half dollar, REALLY shows up in the 1813 and 1814 CBHs. They are definitely my favorite year CBHs! The graffiti artists of of the day might have wondered, "Why bother".

Another good book is "The Ultimate Guide To Attributing Bust Half Dollars" by Dr. Glenn Peterson, Aces. With his book and a Overton book in hand, you can nail the Overton attribution on just about any CBH. I've met Dr. Peterson, really nice guy who knows his Bust halves.

Quote: Thank you! I took 6 shots just to see what turned out. When they all showed different aspects, I thought, "What the hey?", I'll post 'em all! Someone needs to make those into an animated GIF.

Quote: Another good book is "The Ultimate Guide To Attributing Bust Half Dollars" by Dr. Glenn Peterson, Aces. Thanks DE! I've been looking for a copy of that one and Souder's "Bust Half Fever" and can't seem to find any. Nice die Break on that one Moe! Surprised it isn't a higher R value coin with a break like that!

Quote: Nice die Break on that one Moe! I almost didn't buy this one thinking it was a weak reverse strike, and I wanted one with more wing detail. I looked at other O-109s and they all have the weak reverse left wing strike (due to the enormous die break, obviously!) So, now I own this one.

Hey Aces,
Dr. Peterson is listed on the JRCS website as a Director. Click on his director listing at JRCS.org and it will open up his email address. I purchased my copy from him directly ;)
