''Hey guys, has anyone seen this coin? I am wondering if it's real or counterfeit. It came from China.'' I have seen this oneThese are 2 photos with the same different quality coins of 500 won 1989. I don't know why these coins have difference, but it's just a one question of many,if you try to get info about coins of DPRK . I stay now on two guesswork: 1. it's some kind of re-strike. 2. some part of mintage has been made on the other equipment. p.s. re-strike of DPRK is an another question! This is a page from an original catalog of DPRK coins and there says, that a minting starting in 1996 !What means all coins of DPRK with date before 1996 - are not with an original date of minting.
Quote: Very keen to get hold of one. But couldn't find online. So far I only have a North Korea note which I think it's easier to get then coin
Yes,banknotes of NK are much common. There are also many coins of NK,but the most common silver coins are with sport, animals, ships etc..Those coins you can easy find on ebay. The other motives coins also goes through ebay, but not often
Quote: How did you manage to get such a fantastic collection. Love it. Any online sites that I can get them too?
Thank you! Step by step I'm collecting these coins. I'm buying them from different countries. It's not easy to collect coins of North Korea, ant there isn't some exactly place, where you can buy them.I have some double coins, but I don't wont to sale them, only exchange with somebody for the coins of NK, which I do not have yet.
I just bought this 20 won coin with Kim Il Sung (plain edge):
I've seen in your video that you have both varieties of this coin. Did you figure out if they were minted at different mints? whats the mintages of each of them? and after all were they minted in North Korea or somewhere outside (Cuba?)? Thanks in advance!
Hello, dear dulitu! Nice coin, congratulation!Do you collect the DPRK coins too?Could you, please,to share a photo of the other side the coin? Yes,I have both types of this coin. They were minted by North Korea mint in Punyang - so says North Korea.I don't have any info about any mintage or those coins outside of the DPRK,and I gues, the DPRK will never tell us about that.
Hey, Lex, sorry for delay with reply. I don't collect NK coins in particular, but world silver crowns so this one fits right in my collection and is way nicer than the previous one I had from NK (500 won 1988 - FAO).
here is the other side of my coin: While googling about it, I stumbled upon some gamer forum with people offering some good cash in exchange for this coin (I assume because of the famous image of Kim Il Sung).. so after all it is quite a sought after coin!
P.S. I saw that other new thread about NK coinage, but since my original post was here - I reply here.
