Sorry, another thought . If it were acid wouldn't it have eather just smoothed that area or created an embossed 1960's era "woodie" look following the impurities in th planchet.

whatever it is it looks beautiful by eye. ugly in the eye loop. and it glows in the dark with minimal lighting. I like it!
