I think the scratch is too deep to polish out without jeopardizing the slab. The coin is a slam-dunk 63 in anyone's slab and stands a good chance of crossing at grade. Me, I'd try to cross it in the current slab and accept 63.

Sometimes the deep scratches require you to kick it up a notch. I had a 1909-S VDB MS63BN in a messed up PCGS holder. I never tried it before, but used my rotary tool on a couple of the deep scratches. There's a soft cloth polishing attachment that I used. Just keep the attachment wet at all times. I had some dvd/cd disc repair stuff lying around and used that. It worked fine. I probably could have sold the coin/holder as is, but had trouble getting decent photos. When I was done you couldn't even tell it was polished, looked good as new.

What a pathetic excuse to return a coin! PITYFUL, hopefully you blocked that buyer.

Slab-Renew has a lot of good reviews on ebay, go for it.

WOW Ed, I would have been nervous as all heck using a rotary tool on a slabbed S-VDB.

Yeah, sometimes ignorance is bliss. It was a couple of years ago after I started collecting again. Was very careful though, and never got too far over my head. Soft brush, very slow speed, minimal contact, and lots of polish. Practicing on less valuable slabs first helped.

@rayof315, would you consider selling this LWC to me? I tried emailing you, but your account currently won't accept them. Email me when you see this. Thanks.
