The water lines are different but it's hard to say if it's the lack of relief or if the enamel has filled in the low areas

Falcon;
I suppose it is a patent process...shrouded in mystery...intentionally...
Regardless, of the 6 new big colour coins, my vote for best of the bunch is the first loonie coin...great looking loon...does come alive on the silver 5 oz.
It is my favorite of this series...
2nd favorite is the Bluenose...
least appealing for my eyes is the twoonie...polar bear.

Thanks very much falcon for the photos! The paint job looks good, I don't see any dithering. It's closer to the kind of paint job on the "Two Loons" than that on the "Birds of Canada" coins. Definitely a good thing. Also I think the relief/engraving are different between the 2 series, there is no way they can fill the low areas with paint, so the Mint have created different dies for this new series.

Talisman has in stock the limited mintage (1500) Coloured Big Looney coin , priced USD 379.95

Hmmm...according to google it less than issue price at RCM.

Knowing the Talisman' strategy with projected to be "hot" cons - this is should be first alarm regarding the series...

That's roughly the US issue price, but you are correct if Talisman thinks this coin is hot, it will not be at this price

It is not that popular actually. I still saw it in the Vancouver Mint store last week sitting in the glass.

Still there as of Friday. I looked at it closely for a couple of minutes. Not impressed at all. The coin is very flat with almost no relief. Just another expensive painted coin.
