This circulation find, for today's date, provides a fairly good illustration of my point in the post above.

BadThad, do you have any interpretation of the third picture down? Do you think somebody sneezed on it 68 years ago?

Quote: BadThad, do you have any interpretation of the third picture down? Do you think somebody sneezed on it 68 years ago? I bought this at a coin show, it was glued to a piece of paper (don't remember what it said). I soaked it in water for 24 hours, the paper came off and this is how it looked. I bought it for the obverse toning and this was a bonus. It made for a very unique coin!

Thanks for that interesting answer, BT. I need to go to more coin shows.
And srs, your 1949s are very attractive.

For today's date, I offer another humble circulation find, because I like the chocolate color.

Centsei, I share your sentiments about wheat cents all the way. I especially agree that a design deserves thoughtful consideration concerning the wear on the coin.. for example, I am sure the designers of the second series of Queen Victoria British crowns (1880-ish) never gave it much consideration that Victoria would look bald before long.. (heh, heh)

This one seems to have a decades-old fingerprint. And thanks for the follow-up comment, mamastinky.
