Looks like "Tribute to $2" will be the most expensive tribute set. The mintage is 150, but could be, that this is not the actual mintage, but amount of sets (boxes), and RCM will sell all the coins in separate too (do not see the reason, why not, cause all the coins different), but ofcause first will be offered the set. The also include some page of $2 bills...even I kept some of the bills, but why some will be interested in entire page of them - this is just coloured paper...

The RCM and bank of Canada are two separate corporations. I'd be very surprised if the bills are being printed now. Although having $2 bills dates 2016 would be interesting.

Many collectors enjoy owning uncut sheets of currency. I would hardly consider them "just coloured paper" as they are legal tender notes. In addition, the sheet consists of replacement notes which are more scarce than regular notes.

The only reason why bank notes would be stored in RCM's vault for 20 years is at that time it was intended to sell them in the future. Otherwise banknotes are routinely destructed from Cdn monetary supply by BofC. Makes me wonder what else is in that vault? The past owners of 1912-1914 gold coins have expressed their discontent various times over the fact Cdn Govt entities pose unfair competition by secret stockpiling of such. Seems the precedence was established.... I tend to agree, as minters and printers of money their role should be that of satisfying the current demand of monetary supplies, not becoming sellers of numismatics totally unrelated to NCLT.

Quote: Unless the 2 dollar sheets are a one off printing by request of rcm Yes, my initial understanding was: "these are new freshly printed "banknotes" for the set" in this case they just souvenir but if it real 1986 notes, uncut, with replacement serial number - than it really enrich the set.

They can't be souvenir because a 1986 $2 banknote is still considered legal tender so if it's 1986 it's "real" regardless of when it was printed,
Otherwise a 2016 $2 special anniversary banknote celebrating the anniversary would be more probable, nothing new, they do it with coins all the time. Just the same, it'd still be worth $2.00.

Finally got reps email, seems they as mentioned, the RCM kept at least 150 or more of the BRX replacement sheets, once again the not sure how these sheets were originally marketed, but could affect the market place.

It's just a sheet of BRX replacement in a tube. It was stored in the BoC vaults for 20 years... The value of the BRX replacement sheet will decline in value. The Charlton Cat. states the value around $4,000, for the BRX uncut $2 Bonin/Thiessen sheet (before this big dump).

The RCM had nothing to do with the selling of the banknotes. The banknote sheets were originally sold by the Bank of Canada when the $2 was about to be discontinued. They did the same thing with the $1 banknote when the loonie took its place. I remember the banknote sheets being publicized on TV and print media back in the 1980/90s. Back 30 years ago, the Bank of Canada had an office in downtown Vancouver and people went there to buy the uncut sheets. Besides full sheets of 40, they had uncut banknotes of other sizes. The Bank of Canada seem to have gone out of the business of selling banknotes. Besides the $1, and $2 banknote sheets, they sold sheets of the $5 and $10 too. And those are much rarer. Not only uncut sheets but also sets of banknotes with matching serial numbers. But we have seen nothing from the Bank of Canada for many years now. Maybe they left the distribution of banknotes to the banks now. BTW, I have a sheet of the regular $2.00 that I bought for about $200 a few years ago. These sheets are pretty easy to find. You could get either the $1 sheets or $2 sheets for under $200 in auctions. According to the Charlton catalog, the Bank of Canada sold 114,515 sheets of the $1 banknotes. No mention of how many $2 sheets they sold.

Thank you for clarification....so these are real, and not just re-prints , or something like "Cancelled stamps" They will be valuable addition to the set, but for the set integrity, RCM should include just one banknote, sealed in the plastic and has a spot in the box with the coins.

2016 must be an uneventful year. A 20th anniversary regarding the $2 banknote doesn't seem that big of a deal considering the 25th anniversary is in year 2021. Oh well, seems it's expected we all have very short memories.

So far this year, we've had the 140th anniversary of a library, the 20th anniversary of the toonie, and a Daytona raceway medallion not to mention a bunch of movie inspired coins. The Mint is truly shameless but I expect the 44th anniversary of the Halifax donair coins will be awesome.
