Libertads are my favorite coins, and yes, I'm still collecting them. I've recently started to look into Libertad gold coins.I bought my very first one several weeks ago, it's a 1/20 gold BU Libertad, 2013. There were only 650 minted that year, making it the key to the series.
Last fall, I bought the 2016 Reverse Proof set, it's stunning. I actually listened to your advice Yup, I bought the 2015 silver proof set in ms 69 from MCM...lovely set of coins.
I've got plans to potentially buy the 2016 gold libertad set, too. I know the mintages were a little more on them but my goodness, we are still talking TINY mintages. I'm in Libertads, both silver and gold, for the long haul. The tiny, tiny mintages will eventually work out in the collector's favor, IMO.

hey TMCD75, that reverse proof is really nice, I would be interested in buying just the 2015 reverse proof, nice coin! Glad you stuck with 69s, at LEAST, if something goes wrong in terms of white spots, IF you plan on selling, you wont get hosed as if you bought a 70 and spots showed up. If I buy a proof silver coin, I compare prices on 69 versus raw and often find that prices run neck and neck and sometimes if you can find an auction for graded 69s from say MCM, even better, they often come BELOW the raw price. Case in point, I did that with a 2016 PF69 panda 150gram. I am/been collecting 2016 silver and gold Libertads, tho in gold I want sizes half ounce and higher which I am finding. anyways, I am glad to hear you are still collecting Libertads proof coins, I really like proof silver despite the flaws and risks. Keep an eye out on MCM and others on ebay for those gold sets, MCM already has them out and I have seen that they also run auctions and thats were you can score a nice deal for say a PF69 Libertad gold set. Hope it works out my friend!

Yup, You should check out the guy on you tube who recently posted a video of himself going to his bank and opening safety deposit boxes I'm assuming. He pulls out every gold set since like 2004....some of these sets he shows are worth a small fortune!!
Check it out on you tube. I don't have the link, just Google libertad coins on YouTube and I'm sure you'll find it.

Hey guys, I joined a couple years ago but was turned off by the 50 minimum post to be able to purchase from the BST threads. Anyway, I'm back and going through some old threads (maybe I'll hit my 50) but I also collect libertads. Just curious how far you've come with your sets, gold and silver. Thanks!

I'm going to have to agree with yup7676 here. The TPG's have basically created a two tier system: perfect "70" coins, and everything else, which are all around the same price. The 69's carry little to no premium over raw, it's quite true. In theory these are all specially prepared coins from fresh dies, so they should all be nearly flawless. I only buy raw bullion coins as I refuse to pay anything extra for a slab, but I'm not above cracking a "69" open and putting the coin into one of my Quadrum Intercept holders.

I started this thread two years ago, time flies! Anyway, I've continued collecting on a small scale, nothing major.
I've acquired the 2015-2017 Reverse Proof Libertad sets. I've also picked up the 2013 and 2017 1/20oz gold bu raw libertad pieces. The 2013 piece is the lowest mintage piece in that size at just 650 pieces. I also picked up a 2001 and 2002 raw silver proof one ounce coin.
So I've certainly added to my collection but these things are pricey. It takes money to build any coin set, particularly a Libertad set.

While I agree that for general high volume modern bullion, there is little value to an MS69, I will say that does not necessarily hold true for Libertad.
I agree it holds true for most series...but for Libertads, it is not always the case. Especially for MS. If you look at any Libertad year between 1982 (when started) and about 2010, any MS69 will carry significant (sometimes hundreds of dollars) more value than a raw. Actually there are no MS69 that exist until 1991. And only 5 years before 2010 have an MS70. The mass volume of MS69 and MS70 do not truly crank up until 2013. Prior to that, there is still plenty of fun to be had looking for great raw specimens to send in and get some great results.

They certainly can be pricey. There are a few I'm looking for and crazyglue has helped me out on another forum, but I dare not share my list here until I hit 50 posts!
