Not sure if I should post this here or start a new post, but I definitely want to update everyone who was involved with this since it has been so long and I haven't been around for awhile. If I see that this gets noticed or I get directed to do a new thread, I will then post a full update.
Yes, please, give us any update you have!

This is such a good and very heartwarming thread! I am very impressed with everyone, including the members helping out by sending their duplicates. I love the coin community so much! Good job to everyone involved in the thread!

So for Christmas 2017 the kids and I gave the books mostly filled to my dad. He was down from ocala. before he opened them the Pickle (my daughter) told him "Ddad mommy and I have been doing something for you", he thought it was a homemade craft. when he unwrapped them, he got very teary eyed and looked at me with a confused look.
when he opened the albums and saw them mostly filled, he was even more shocked.
i shared with him that it had always weighed on my heart what my sister and I did as kids and this was my way of trying to show him I love him and fix it.
He full cried. But I also told him that I was hoping we could fill some empty slots together.

The kids are going up this summer to visit for a few weeks and the pickle will be taking cents with her so that her and Ddad can sort and fill more slots.

Unfortunately he was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year (luckily its early stage, if thats lucky) and My little ones are still very much enjoying change hunting (although pickle prefers State Quarters.) So I hope that they will be able to share in some good memories this summer, including filling those slots together.

I am eternally grateful for everyone who helped with this in both encouragement and the coin gifts, and so sorry I am the worst with getting on here providing updates.
But I have not given up the coin collecting either by myself or with my daughter. Thank you again everyone and I hope everyone who needs/wants to see this does :) Gretchen

CoinMom4 - this story brought tears to my eyes! The journey, the new acquaintances you've made all the way to presenting the newly found coins to your dad. My Grandfather created my obsession with coins, I was young, just 13, when we lost him but I still have coins he and I 'found'. Yea as an adult totally planted by Papa but hey it's the memory right? LOVE this story thank you for sharing!

I'm happy to see it ended well! I wasn't here from the start but enjoyed reading through. Saddened to hear about his condition, it's not easy. If it makes you feel any better (and if it doesn't you can laugh at me) I once spent a $2000 coin on Pepsi knowing full well what it was.

Omg, def makes me laugh, and I really feel like you should share this story.
Kinda obligated too since you know woman can never hear just a tidbit.
