I have a permanent note on my monitor top that I take with me to shows, which is "If you don't love it - Dont buy it for any price."

No upgrades, no selling, no feeling bad about looking at a coin I wish I never purchased.

I work pretty heavily with the YNs in my coin club and at the show that my club puts on every year, and I always tell them to buy quality over quantity. I made this mistake when I was starting out and I hope they don't do the same thing.

I set some goals for my collection this year. I have found that this has kept me focused on what is important to me. It also has given me a sense of accomplishment as I have achieved my goals.

I set nine goals for this year and I have accomplished eight of them. I don't think I will finish the last goal so I will carry it over to next year. I have already set my goals for 2017, right now I have ten of them.

Having the goals has not overshadowed my "fun" coins buys. I'm still picked up a few coins for my 20th century slabbed type set.

Buying coins is good and realistically the only way to obtain many coins is to purchase them, especially if they're old or precious metal.

However, to me the real fun and satisfaction comes from collecting coins in circulation. Even though they are virtually worthless, my collection of decimal pennies from 1971-present is one of the best things I've done for my collection.

There's about 6 or 7 YNs that regularly attend, and then a handful who pop in every once in a while. Unfortunately, I can't get too in depth in my discussions with them because they are all in the 7-10 year old range. I enjoy working with them, but it gets kind of awkward sometimes since I'm 16.
