I'm hoping this is the $99 silver dollar proof set. It's released around April in past years.

That would be nice, but.

If the specs included on ebay are correct - i.e., all of the coins in the set struck on silver planchets - I'm afraid this set will likely be another in the $229.95 - $234.95 range.

Maybe someone who has seen the actual RCM or CP listing of the set can confirm?

Confirmed, gentlemen

In the Coin-4-Fun listing appears:
2017 Canada 150 Our Home and Native Land Pure Silver Colourized 7-Coin Proof Set

This seller, in the early pre-sales never extremely overcharges.
The BIN price C $279.95 , hence issue price around CAD 230

A little off topic but I'm wondering just how many one dollar coins I will be buying this year?
I beleive in 2012 I bought 19 different dollar coins 12 loons, 6 silver dollars and one token.
I hoping the mint is not intending to set a new record.

@Falcon, I hear you!

And, for me, it's not so much about the number of SDs, it's about how they have been released. If it was one proof set and three individual coins - no real problem. But two of the issues (soon to be three!) were only available in high-dollar silver proof sets.

To keep my SD current with the four 2017-dated issued coins so far, I have spent $584.80 (CAD). That is just way too much for four SDs!

Now, the RCM is about to ask me to spend another $230 or so for a fifth SD! Since the other coins in the proof sets are of far less interest to me, I am essentially paying the set price for a single coin. If I buy the latest set, my average cost per SD is going to be about $165! Again, way too much!

I realize 2017 is a special year - I expected a larger-than-usual number of SDs, but making the majority of them available only in high-cost proof sets was unexpected (at least by me).

I will grudgingly tolerate the approach this year, but if the RCM continues it in 2018 they will be losing a long-term customer.

Commems, you probably are aware but the SDs from the sets are often available from Colonial Acres. I got the gold plated 150 from them for $116. Certainly an expensive SD but better than buying the set and either having coins you don't want, or having to sell them to recoup some of the cost. They had the Confederation gold plated SD as a single as well but are currently sold out. I'd expect they will have this latest one too once it's released. Just another option other than ebay.

And are we sure that this latest proof set won't be accompanied by a regular SD without the colour? Maybe it's 6 SD already?

@CC-Ottawa: Yes, I've considered purchasing singles in the past but have always been concerned with the possibility of fingerprints being "added" to the surface of the SD as it was being removed from the set for individual sale and that the prints would only show up months/years later and thus require a repurchase. At least with a direct purchase from the RCM, I was assured of no such extra handling and could exchange a problem set if I needed to for up to one year.

When it was one set per year, it wasn't a big deal but with 2017 bringing three (and counting) of these sets, the cost is more of an issue.

As I've said repeatedly here on CCF, I don't collect modern NCLT as an investment, but I don't believe in unrestrained spending either. I feel that limits have to be set on how much money is "reasonable" to spend in the pursuit of my hobby. The RCM, for me, is currently bumping up against the line between reasonable and unreasonable.

Has anyone seen the Masters Club Exclusive Grizzly Bear with Blue Enamel coin yet? I just got an email that I'll soon receive it but no image.

@onecad - I personally like the Grizzly Bear with Enamel this month. This is looking like a nice series. Am I dreaming, or did mintages go down with this 2nd coin?

The Grizzly Bear and "The Forgotten 1927 Designs" are my top-picks this month... all others appear to be a disjointed hodge-podge of themes and/or continuations of subscriptions.

The Canada 150 Proof set looks exactly like the earlier Canada 150 Proof Set except the silver dollar is red colourized rather than than gold plated. The gold plated SD looks much better than this one.

The enamel grizzly is indeed lower mintage at 4000. Last year's polar bear was 5000 mintage. The polar bear did not do well on the secondary market with most going for issue or lower.

I just checked the mintage on the polar bear from last year and it's also 4000.

Thanks MoneyPenny.

So the new one is the $100 set with just the SD not another all silver set at 235. A little better but still. The ebay listing that had shown it as the all silver set has been changed.

Based on pic on ebay, the red 150 dollar is similar to the previous 150 SD and gold plated version but it's not quite the same. I agree, it doesn't look as good.
