Rarest commemorative coin?  Rome, Philip the Arab AR Antoninianus, 244 AD PAX FVNDATA CVM PERSIS, commemorating cessation of hostilities between Shapur I and Rome. Approx. 100-200 known specimens? 50 sold at auction in past 20 years OH! Did you mean those newfangled things?  |

I'll have to go with this one, of all I have, they all in OGP and my 2005P John Marshall (67,096) has the outer shipment cello intact, ain't gonna break it either! Have the 2004P Edison (92,510) so both these are low, but the Gold $5 1991W Mount Rushmore takes the cake with 31,959   Edited by Crazyb0

1966 Jersey 5 shillings. Commemorating the Conquest of Norman in 1066 A.d. Mintage 300,000 Circulating Commemorative coin...(ungraded)  The Conquest of Norman started as a direct result of King Edward of England,while on his death bed, declaring Harold II as his successor to the throne. This happened on Jan 5th 1066. Harold II was crowned King of England the very next day. The only problem with this is that 2 years earlier, in 1064, Harold II swore an oath to defend King Williams, the king of Normandy, right to the throne of England. Having Harold II take the throne instead of defending it for King William caused Normandy to invade England in Aug of 1066. Then on OCT 14 1066 King Williams troops won a decisive victory in the Battle of Hastings where King Harold II was killed in battle by an arrow to the eye according to legend. After winning the Battle of Hastings, King Williams troops quickly swept across the rest of England and surrounded London. This caused England to surrender to King William and on Dec 25th 1066 William was crowned King of England. Sorry about the history lesson. Figured this was the perfect opportunity to do a small write up on this coin. Edited by MontCollector
