I think the former would attract more participants, while the latter would be more interesting. Personally I do not mind only bein a spectator when the challenge brings interesting examples for my viewing pleasure.

The next round will be a simple one-dimensional challenge to match the date of the challenge coin as close as possible. The challenge coin: 1829-- United States, 50 cents: The goal is to come up with a coin dated as close to 1829 as possible. I used a US coin, but the entries can be from any country. 1) Each entry gets 1 point for each year that the date differs from 1829. 2) Coins that could have been minted in a range of years get points based on the farthest-away year. Example: coins made from 1820 to 1831 will receive 9 points. This includes Islamic-dated coins, where one date would normally overlap two AD years. 3) The entry with the fewest points wins this round. In case of a points tie, the earliest entry wins. 4) Posts without a coin will receive 2500 points -- the first post of this type can win, if no valid entries are received. 5) If a user posts multiple entries, the one earning the fewest points will count in the standings. 6) If there are no entries, the CCF staff will determine how to proceed. 7) Added:: cutoff time for entries will be 16:00 Forum time, 2020/12/17. Anyway -- let the round begin, and good luck to all.

The time for entries has expired. Congratulations to Arkie, the winner of this round. Thanks to Princetane for suggesting 1829 as the challenge date, and thanks to all who submitted entries for this round.
It's time to pass the baton to Arkie.
