I've found 3 Jefferson nickel proofs over the past year or so (78S, 72S, and 2000S) over about 20 boxes. So, it may just be timing for you, Mark1959.

Yeah, I don't get boxes. I just get about 20 rolls at a time from the bank branch I have an account with. And who knows if they have already been searched. I mark the rolls and cash them in at the main office in the next town over but even so have gotten rolls I've searched through back from the branch in my town. For some reason, banks around me only will give and take rolls if you have an account with them.

Only proof I ever found CRH was a 2002s ( I believe I misidentified it as 2001 s in a different thread. Anyway I found it recently, but any proof quality is long gone...it has more haze and more scratches than a seven pound soup sandwich.

A soak in acetone might get rid of the haze but all the scratches are there to stay.

Newbie question: How can you tell that this is a proof coin? I know that proofs are often double-struck, but how are you able to tell it apart from just a well-struck coin in the wild?

Thanks!

Look for mirrored fields, which are not necessarily destroyed by circulation. Also look at the rims, which should be squared and even around the entire coin

Mark - Good thread, but would you please spell the word "nickel" correctly in your title?

You have a great memory, CrazyBO! I'm slowing building my CRHing impaired proof set!

I've gone through 11 boxes an found 2 impaired proofs. A 1961 (thanks crazybO!) and a 1997. Do you need either of these?

PM me, I'd rather they went to someone with a passion for them, than let them sit in a tube until my heirs Coinstar them.

Thanks jbuck. For some reason I've always had trouble with that word spelling.

No worry. I often type it wrong, but see it correct and then later have to go back and fix it when I see it.
