When this post moves from active topics to archived, then we start the next year. Make sense?

So when your post is hidden? We move on to the next year?

I'm sorry, I guess I don't get it

Sorry, let me clarify. Active topics are posted on the this page: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/active.asp

Threads that don't receive responses for an unspecified length of time are removed from the active section.
They are only viewable by clicking on the sub-forum that they were originally posted in.

If any admins want to clarify on the length of time before removal it would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, now I understand though I like your idea of 48 hours better. Maybe even 72 hours without another post then on to the next year?

I think it would be easier to move to the next year when the thread is removed from active topics.

With this approach you don't have to go through the tedious process of digging back to find out what the date and time was of the first post of the year in question.

The 'so many hours' approach is more hassle and time consuming.

With removal from active posts approach, there's no going back to check time stamps of posts, counting hours, days, etc. When you enter into CCF via active topics(which is what I do and suspect most members do) and discover this thread is no longer appears, you know it's time to move to the next year.

There is no time, when you mark them all read, then they disappear from active.asp until there is another reply then it shows up again. It only has to do with the member, not time. It gets removed at different times for everyone.

Maybe it would be easier to advance the year on a schedule? For example, Monday, Wednesday, Friday at noon forum time.

pepactonius, great idea! Similar to jbuck's "guess the price" game. That would be much easier.

I can whip up a schedule similar to the one used in "Days of..." threads or in the "Guess the Price" game by jbuck, if one is needed.

No matter who creates the schedule, first we'll need to decide how long we should wait for members to post a certain year.

Great! I think waiting 48 or 72 hours for member to post a coin of a particular year is reasonable.

Now we just need to get some votes for 48 or 72 hours. I'll wait to see what the majority of members think.

I think this misses the target. This is not a "days of" topic, it is more like the HFBCWG tbreads. We are supposed to see how far back it goes. If it gets stuck, it gets stuck and the question is answered.

I say if it gets stuck for a week then start a new one and call it the second edition. When the second edition catches the first, the first gets locked and we start a third.

I see your point jbuck and it makes perfect sense. However, if that's the case then this particular thread should have stopped some time ago because the last posts in which all denominations including gold, was completed was quite some time ago if I'm not mistaken.

Okay, sounds good jbuck.

Tomorrow if no one posts with any more 1894 coins I'll move to 1893.

If it sounds good then why move to 1893?

Toot does make a good point, the mission failed a long time ago.

With that said, I will now keep my yap shut. Handle it however you want, just remember to have fun.
