mrwiskers, this is one of my only confirmed-genuine cobs - I'm jealous of your hoard.

...nice cob, Hondo...by 1769, all other (than Potosi) Spanish colonial mints had ceased cob production in favor of screw-press milling. Your 2 reales has 2 clear dates (7-6-9, for 1769)), & an assayer's mark (" V ") upper right, pillars side, next to the clear denomination mark " 2 " ... there were 2 assayers at Potosi during this period, & the other assayer mark (" Y ") is off the flan (would have been lower left, next to the date) ... cobs of this era were typically chunky, & not much detail was impressed onto the surfaces ... yours also has a nice, full cross & good lion & castle detail ... it's silver content would be .917, & correct weight @6.7g, but most of these cobs were clipped in circulation (common practice at the time) ... nice coin, & definitely a keeper ...

Thank you all! And thank you kindly, mrwiskers, for the information about these cobs. I'll weigh it when I remember which shoebox I put it in.
