This coin is a well-known counterfeit, a cast copy of an original "Royal" struck Spanish cob. "Royals" were carefully struck from special dies, onto round planchets, in order to show all of the die detail of a certain year. These coins are called "Royals", as they are believed to have been presentation pieces to monarchs & high-ranking individuals, not intended for circulation or trade, as were the crudely struck regular cobs of the day. I bought it knowing it was not genuine, but could not resist it's full detail...rare for any cob. it is a study piece for me, as it shows accurate die details for that issue... Montserrat, to Mexico ...
