I used to collect stamps but that was a long time ago. I had several books with them and I remember they had to be put in place with some kind of sticky thing. Being of German decent my Dad had massive amounts of German Stamps from a long, long time ago that he gave me. Not long ago I gave the entire mess to some kid and only hope he saves them. I'm afraid stamps have gone the way of Beanie Babies, Hot Wheel cars, knives, baseball/football cards. Naturally there are those that are worth money but for someone to attempt to start a stamp collection, I feel sorry for them due to the governments production of stamps with almost anything on them including a kitchen sink. Not really, just an old saying.

My father recently passed, and he was an avid
stamp collector. I was going over to the stamp
board for a while after he passed. I wanted to
learn and maybe get hooked on stamps myself.
However the board is so slow, it doesn't keep
my attention.

Even this board is borderline slow for what I
am used to in my hobby forums. I don't have the
patience for boards with only a couple posts per
day... (like the stamp forum)

The good news is that even as slow as that board
is, I have been bitten by the 'stamp bug'.
I don't think I'll ever be as interested as I
am in coins, cars, guns, etc... but I have
been enjoying myself cleaning up loose ends
and such in Dad's collection.

I have also discovered that stamps are
relatively cheap to collect. Therefore, even
though Dad has a great deal of neat and
expensive looking stuff, I will
probably never sell any of it because of
the sentimental value.

As a matter of fact, I have found myself
spending a bit here and there to add to
the collection.

My .02
Fwiw...

But Dave, everything has to start of slow first, and then pick up later on... If all the stamp community members were thinking along the same lines, we wouldn't even get a few posts a day.... In fact, stamp community is picking up really nicely... Theres heaps of freebies over there too, so why don't y'll come anyways...

First just_carl.. I do hope that kid does something useful with them... ratio I know exactly what you mean, I wait for hours for a reply, but if it's too slow, I just click the link back to here! Maybe you should just go on now and again.
