I did halves for years but they became rather boring due to lack of finds (competition in my area).
I started dimes and did them five years straight, never boring. Barbers, mercs, silver Canadians and Roosevelts.
Dimes are small coins, I believe there are many silvers still in circulation, overlooked because of size.
One silver per $150 searched, not counting unusual stuff or errors.
I was addicted and would sit down with no less than $1,000 at a time, many times two or three times that amount per week in customer-wrapped coin. Could edge search and re-roll in less than 10 seconds.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

I would search Dime rolls. They aren't too expensive and they aren't over-searched.

Unlike halves and quarters finds don't eat up your budget and they are easier to transport.

John77 eloquently made this point:

Halves are good if you have the finances and are friendly with your bank managers. As others have mentioned though, you can find silver, but the keepers can quickly burn up your money. I'm doing more dimes this year in an attempt to find more of the scarce 2009-dated coins along with silver, of course.

If you need cents for a collection, you should complete that task first. Dimes have the chance of building junk silver(silver mining ) and numismatic finds.

I just want to thank everyone again who has offered their advice and information. All f this will help me tremendously when I actually get the box which I'm having an exponentially harder time waiting for as time goes on. Especially afcop13 for the dates to look for and Rackster for the amazing resources.

Fistfulla dirt and parklane, dimes are probably what I'll do second, I do like the idea of searching them it seems like it would be a lot of fun.
