You don't often see that creature on a coin, Hondo.

Not often at all, GLB. Must be a charisma thing. Crabs were on many ancients and on lots of NCLT, but not too many for general circulation.

Very nice Hondo Boguss. I like the crab on the reverse.

When Tuvalu had their own coins (1976 - 1994), all featured a sea creature on the reverse. They crank out commemoratives by the boatload (minted in Perth) as a major source of their income. From what I gather, they now use Australian coins (perhaps specially marked) - hopefully someone can clarify this.
Here's my other Tuvaluan coin - 2 Cents 1976 featuring a stingray.

Tonga's first circulating coinage featured Queen Salote Tupou III on the obverse, who ruled from 1918 until her death in 1965. The reverse featured Tu'i Malila, a Radiated Tortoise (Geochelone radiata) given to the Tongan Royal Family by Captain Cook in 1777. The tortoise, originally from Madagascar, passed away in 1966, 6 months after Queen Salote.
