1997 was the first year of the bimetallic £2 coin in the UK. I checked through £100 worth last week and found no fewer than three of these, and got a fourth in change at the weekend! They are the only bimetallic £2 coin with the Raphael Maklouf portrait of the Queen, and at the time they were issued there was a rumour that they were very rare and valuable. They aren't as common as the ubiquitous 1998, but with a mintage of 13,734,625 are certainly not rare!

1995 British 2p coin: Rather than search bags of 2p coins, I usually go down to my local amusement arcade, where they have change machines that will change higher denomination coins to 2p's. The arcades are open at the weekend when the banks are shut.
