They've actually been my second favorite coin, and nickels being my overall favorite denomination. It's just the start of hopefully a big collection in the years to come

Yes they're still usable. I think all our coins through history are still usable as currency aside from Gold coins and maybe Large Cents.

Edit: And Half Cent, Two Cent, Three Cent, and Twenty Cent Pieces and Half Dimes I'm sure can't be used anymore.
