mrwiskers Pillar of the Community United States 1203 Posts	Posted 04/26/2025 3:13 pm ...OK...yes, this is one ugly, messed-up cob, but, I'm excited & here's why: ...It's a rare issue for Louis I of Spain from the Lima, Peru mint. Louis I Lima mint cobs were limited, & are very scarce issues. ...Poor ol' Louis was sickly, & only reigned for a little over 6 months, in 1724, & news of this ascension & subsequent untimely death took a while to reach the New World mints, especially Potosi & Lima ... ...his distinctive monogram is visible, & the obverse & reverse center details were surrounded by a circle of dots (some are visible). Potosi issues used dashes, rather than dots, making an easy distinction between the two mints. (Mexico used an entirely different design altogether.) ...the seller on ebay had a lot of sub-par 1/2 reales listed (cheap) ... My bet is he didn't know much about cobs, much less about Louis I ... So, as ugly as this cob is, it's a great filler until I can locate & afford a better specimen ... Report this Post to the Staff
