Well I've had some fun today! Managed to pick up a gorgeous 1803 five shilling Bank of England token I'd been saving up for for ages, one that shows traces of the 8 Reales it was struck over. Just spent the last two hours editing the pics I took of it. Hope you like the results, and I hope I can keep them in the right order. Below should be the heads and tails.   Now, I hope, are close/ups showing where SoHo's presses couldn't quite squash the pieces of eight hard enough...   Now, with a bit of luck and enormous strain to my rapidly failing short-term memory come pics of illustrations of 8 Reales showing the appropriate bits. Note that the heads side of the 8 Reales was used as the tails side of the Boulton token, but I dare say other examples will have different alignments etc...   I hope all that makes sense... |

Very nice Spyro , but in your write up you say 1803 but the coin is 1804 ?

Yes, it's 1804. Fat finger syndrome wins again! Just had a big mug of strong tea and my head's still reeling! And thanks GLB49! Hard work indeed. Still if I don't do stuff like this my brain will give in sooner rather than later. Wasted a lot of time in the photography though. If I'd thought what I wanted to do through properly beforehand I wouldn'tve taken so many pictures, which I just ended up deleting. Anyway, the best of them ended up here so I'm happy and if you all like them then so much the better!
