Thank you, erafjel Dearborn and jbuck! Yes, erafjel, Gustav V's coins are quite elegant and I really like them. Gustav VI's coins are not as nice but the incuse design has a charm of its own and probably withstood circulation wear much better. And in either case, both are much nicer than the ghastly zinc ones from Denmark.

@Hondo Boguss: Yes, the incuse coins were quite resistant to wear and tear, true - but I struggle with seeing them as charming!

There are no Swedish coins made of zinc, but iron - which we have plenty of in Sweden - was used as a replacement for copper during and after the wars. It has its own problems, with coins rusting after a number of years. I have two iron coins here, where that problem is clearly visible.

First one is 1 öre, also from the last year of Gustav V design:

And here is a 2 öre from 1917 (the 1, 2, and 5 öre coins used the same design from 1909 to 1950):
