NumisRob Bedrock of the Community United Kingdom 16616 Posts	Posted 03/26/2025 05:45 am The two types of British halfcrown issued in 1817: Old: New: Supposedly George III objected to the first portrait, introduced in 1817, and it was replaced, but I don't know why they changed the reverse as well. Both coins were a collaboration between Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci and Englishman Thomas Wyon: it was the latter's last coin design as he died in September 1817. The heraldic designs were completely different to previous milled halfcrowns that had the four shields in a cross.
