My guess is 1885
sorry James, but there wasn't a large cent issued in 1885. Joe won, anyway.

OK. I don;t know my Canadian money that well. I disagree with your idea though. only about 10 people are ever active on this thread. That would mean 10 questions, and then guessing. That would take away from the fun, because then everyone would clog up the thread with stupid guesses.

As an aside (in case anyone is interested) I am one coin short of completing my Canada large cent set. Including common varieties. It's beautiful.

Hey Joe, (que Jimi Hendrix), an 1884 what?
I will guess, a Canadian Large Cent dated 1884.
Joe won, the coin had already been identified.

Okay, I'm going to take a break while we come up with some ideas on how to tweak the game.
I do like the idea of allowing the master some flexibility.

If the gamemaster decides too soon to stop the questioning, than he/she may be seen as hedging the game for themselves to repeat. Just off the cuff, what if all questions end as soon as the 1st guess happens? I still think 20 questions should be the max. In the spirit of the OP. If a gamemaster is caught, then yes, admit it and start the guessing. Lots of stuff we can do. Lets hear other stuff.

I'm OK with letting the rules stand (edit: but will go along with the prevailing opinion, since I was a latecomer here). ' It just becomes a different kind of game once we are down to only a handful of possibilities ...
And if we change the rules, we need to determine what kind of punishment to mete out if the GameMaster misbehaves. Defrocking? Shunning? Flogging? Beheading?
