We have a day, what's the rush? Now we can talk about what's left before we guess. I'm down to 13 coins. I'll look at them all and see what stands out. Maybe a clue in there somewhere.

You got 1 and we know it. . Now you gotta wait a day. Then if you win, I'm gonna laugh because you're GM again.

I'm on your side, that's why I'm warning that there are more options. :)

It does, but green as well.
The question was, is the flag red and white, not does it have red and white.

So loonie, you're saying if keith's coin was a 1235-1270 coin and you ask was the coin around when Marco Polo was born (1254) he should say NO?

Oz, because the coins can't be defined by year, only by date range, and our upper limit on the date was 1254, then anything with a date range that was greater than the individual date of 1254 is out.

His "yes" answer tells us it's in the older date range.

That date range (1235-1270) is the period of time that Bela IV was King, not the period of time over which that type of coin was actually minted. I mean that coin type may have only been minted in a single year of the king's reign.

Is it therefore a rule for this game that when a coin is not dated and the only dates provided are the first and last year of the ruler's reign the GM must use the last year of the time period as the "date" of the coin. (In this case 1270, so this coin was NOT around in 1254) even though it is possible that it was minted before 1254.

Similarly with the coins of Andrew II (1205-1235), when asked Was this coin around when Alexius IV Angelus was appointed co-regent of Byzantium (1203), the GM would use the year 1235 to answer NO?

I mean if keith's coin is one of the 1205-1235 (Andrew II) coins and he had been asked if the coin was around in 1206 would his answer have still been NO?

I understand what you're saying loonie, but how can you be sure Keith answered the same way you would have.

You are taking the view that since 1270 is after 1254 you can't be certain the coin was around in 1254 and therefore Keith should have answered NO. For all we know Keith may have taken the view that since 1235 is before 1254 this coin could have been around in 1254 and you can't be certain that it wasn't around in 1254 and therefore he answered YES.

Are you going to blow up big time if it turns out keith's coin is Bela IV (1235-1270)?

Sorry about my waffling but I really like the look of those Bela IV obulus coins with the marten and the double cross and wish it was Keith's coin.

But since Keith himself reckons there are only 20 possible coins:

I guess 1205-1235 Hungary obulus, Andrew II, EH#141.
