Here's one of the One Peso coins in my US-Philippines collection. This 1904 coin was struck at the San Francisco Branch Mint during the period when the Philippine Islands were a Territory of the US - the Philippines became a US Commonwealth in 1935 and an Independent country in 1946. The coin's obverse design (commonly referred to as the reverse) presents a US Shield surmounted by a Bald Eagle with wings spread. The Shield includes 13 stars representative of the original 13 US States.

Here's one of the One Centavo coins in my US-Philippines collection. This 1927 coin was struck at the Manila Mint in the Philippines (which was operating under the US War Department but in close association with the Treasury Department/US Mint) during the period when the Philippine Islands were a Territory of the US - the Philippines became an organized US Territory in 1902, a Commonwealth in 1935 and an Independent country in 1946. The coin's obverse design (commonly referred to as the reverse) presents a US Shield surmounted by a Bald Eagle with wings spread. The Shield includes 13 stars representative of the original 13 US States.

ICYWW: The 22 stars encircling the standing figure of Helvetia on the Swiss One Franc coins shown above are symbolic of the 22 cantons that were part of the Swiss Confederation at the time the design was introduced in 1875. Today, Switzerland has 26 cantons.
