I bought a bag of 10 pounds of wheat cents. It was a pretty good mix of dates. There were some very nice coins in there. Of course I didn't find any keys, but it was the most fun I've had in a while. I way overpaid (80.00) but man did I have a ball!!

Sometimes the fun of searching has an "added value" that one really cannot put a price on. Nice!

I picked up a box at the bank today for fun. I had just left the Collector's Shop and he has a 5 gallon bucket 2/3 full of wheats. Sooner or later I'll be walking out of there with them for fun myself. He did give me a 1927 UNC for my collection and a 1956D RMM for my son. That will excite him for sure! nlp

If my wife would let me I'd get another one. She wasn't too happy that I spent 80 on a bunch of stinking pennies I loved every second of it!! I'm gonna ask Santa for another one in a couple of months.

We definitely need to consider the entertainment value on our collecting. I spend at least $20 to take my kids to a movie (matinee with NO snacks, at least not snacks purchased at the theater). I gain hours and hours of entertainment from my collecting. Though $80 is overpaying (I don't really know, I haven't bought any wheat cents in years), it really isn't. You can pull a few from the pile, enjoy yourself, then sell the pile and get back a good chunk of that $80. Sounds like money well spent. My wife could spend $80 buying clothing she would spend less time with than you spent with those cents.

It took me 5 and a half hours to sort them by date. Now to check for errors and such. I also bought a album to do a set.

I agree, collecting is entertaining as well as saving the history of our coinage. I'd much rather roll search than play the lottery or go to a casino.. and probably about the same chance of winning it big!

I agree slack, much worse things I could be doing with my time. Plus, when roll searching it's a no loose hobby.

I agree with everything said.......but out of curiosity, do you know the approximate actual number of Wheats that you bought ? I'd only be guessing at how many Wheats there are in a pound !...

I would honestly have to say every bit of 1300-1500. There was some shiny steel in there, a lot of 40's and 50's in MS. About 3 rolls of teens, 5 rolls of 20's, a lot of 30-50s. I used about 40 2X2's for the better grades. And of course I will post pics when everything is sorted.

Hey sublime, if you hang onto some until you get to 50 posts, I would be more than willing to buy some from you, or trade for Aussie coins if you are interested. I am trying to put a set together myself, not easy from this side of the world.

Lol Jays-Dad, that made me think of my wife and her shopping of late. She's gotten into buying stuff from Victoria Secret. I'm now out of 2 drawers in the bathroom for all of her undies. I really don't want to know how much she has spent in the last 6 months. Like sublime, my wife is like WTH did you pay that much money for a bunch of junk (world coins or US lots). She is of the mind set a penny is a penny no matter how much I try to educate her.

I've almost got her talked into another bag!! My B-Day is next weekend and I'm playing that card real hard! I bought a roll of silver quarters about 1 1/2 months ago. I would have rather spent the $80 on a bag of pennies.
