I am from Ottawa, and I can at least direct you a few options, and offer advice.
1. Take ANY catalogue or price, such as Coins and Canada, with a grain of salt. For George V 5c, they need to be VF or better, and George VI need to be EF or better to have any value. Elizabeth II coins prior to 1972 have to be BU. After 1982, the rest are face value, some people hoard the pure nickel coins prior to 1982 - but generally in bulk.
2. Go to the RA Centre Coin/Stamp show (once a month). There, dealers like Rod MacDonald may offer you a slight premium above face value for 1942-43 Tombac 5c, George V and maybe George VI.
3. I sell coins like yours, but usually in bulk by the roll (40 coins). $4 for a George VI roll and $10 for a George V roll... they sell very slowly, and they really are not worth much unless they are in EF+ grades.
4. There are dates to look for: 1925, 1926, 1947 dot, 1948, and the near/far Leaf mules of 1953. These are worth more in any grade.
5. Coin shops like Alliance Coin & Banknote in Almonte will sometimes give away used Whitman folders, should you want to put together a few sets for sale - depends on how much they are sitting on.
I hope that helps.
