Class VI doubled dies are so often described as thick letters or numerals. This is true but the root of much confusion. The design elements are actually distended/distorted in predictable ways that distinguish this class of doubling.
Here is a link to the best tutorial I know of on recognizing a class VI doubled die. Jason did an excellent job on this. I think I heard that he is one of the new attributors for Coneca.
