...we have only taped into 10% of the copper on the planet so there is 90% left to dig up so theres a vast amount in the earth...
I watched the Modern Marvels episode on copper last night on the History Channel. Very interesting! It made that statement regarding how abundant copper is.

Is it abundant at low cost though? I mean there is a lot of gold in the oceans, but it cost more than the gold is worth to get it out.

It really shouldn't count as reserves unless it can be mined at a profit.

Saw the same show Jbuck. It also stated recycling is cost prohibitive to bring it back to 99.9% pure needed for most industrial use. But check your plumbing in the future, there may be some Lincolns in your water pipes.

When inflation heats up (from the out of control gov. spending), metals will all increase in price. My guess- 3 or 4 years before a Wheat cent is worth 10 cents.

And if there are coins in the mess, they too get melted into a pile of Copper or whatever they were made of. If the coin police could tell if a blob of Copper was ever a coin, then maybe someone would pay attention to that law.

This is going on everywhere. It's one of the reasons I defend the series. There was plenty of Memorials minted and plenty of them saved in MS condition, but I feel the number left in the wild has greatly diminished. Nobody cares about the cent anymore, it's the most lost and abused coin series ever.

That is the way of life for coins.

Metal---Coins----Metal

90+% of coins will be converted back into the metal at some point. If they ever stop using the cent and go to a 1/20 of a dollar vs 1/100 dollar pricing, then what is going to happen to all those cents? They are going to get melted. All those old pre Euro coins likely got melt. A lot of pre1964 silver got melt over the years too.
