Amen Just Carl! I am the same as you in that if I see a coin I like, I will buy it based on my inner need to own it. I am not making light of the professional collectors nor the people who buy and sell for a living. Myself, I am just a ordinary Joe who has loved collecting for a very long time. More often than not, when a coin catches my eye, if I am interested, I will certainly give it a good looking over. Under a loupe or on my computer screen blown up to give it a good look. Based on what grade I think it is, then check value and price guides to come up with what I am willing to pay for it.
