Is the minus sign needed, or is it the quotation marks that take it out.

I ask this then, does that narrow the search, or eliminate some thing that should be in? Same as yes or no answers have their place, equally effective in a certain context.

In my experience, it does both... it's tricky, especially for excluding things using the minus symbol, and CAN eliminate something from the results that you don't want eliminated.
