only thing I worry about a SDB is the Government
is this a valid worry?
Of course, but any authority that would violate the privacy of your SDB probably has no problem doing the same to your house and other property.

I've heard those rediculous things about the government confiscating items in SDB's. Here is something to thinks about. Just in my area I have SDB's in 5 different banks. One of those banks has a basement area so full of those there must be thousands of them there alone. In those 5 banks there surely must be many, many thousands of such boxes. Now imagine how many banks, savings and loans, credit unions, etc, also have those boxes and in every town, village, city in every state. So now we have virtually millions and millions of those boxes.
Just how many people do you think work for the government that would ever have nothing to do except examine and/or confiscate your coins in those boxes.
Of course if our government hired all of Mexico, which is mostly here now, they could have enough people to take on that taske.
If you do ever decide on purchasing a safe for your home, make sure it is delivered in a plain box, or a box stating refridgerator or something like that. Nothing like a bunch of nosey neighbors spreading the stories of all the millions you have in a safe at home.

I heard that a jar of coal will keep moisture out. Is this true?

Heh, the sulfur content of the coal might give you some unexpected toning
Of course, unless you actually live in "coal country", it isn't terribly easy to come by. As a side note, I grew up in a Southern Illinois town that had an annual Coal Festival.

Wasn't near Hillsboro now was it? Pana, Scram City, Talor Springs? Lots of coal mines in the past in that area. Lots of Sulfur rich coal there. Lots of Beer drinking too. As a side note, me too.
