Read somehwere else here that the Fed is up to their die-polishing ears in change. Because of less spending, there's less change circulating. I come across state quarteres every day and bet that I could assemble a whole set from circualtion, P mint anyway. And ditto NY - no nickels or dimes here. But I DID recently get 2 LP2's in change! Yay!

I started drooling when I went to Walgreens the other day and I saw that the drawer was full of BU Nickels. Since my change was 5¢, the cashier handed me a Nickel. It was a 2008-D. I asked her if I could look at some of the Nickels. They were all 2008-D's. For a second there, I thought that I'd discovered some 2009-D Nickels (and that's what they would be, since I'm in Denver!). You want to know what 'frustration' is? I saw some 2009-D Nickels rolling off the presses last month! They all went to the Federal Reserve, according to a Mint employee that I talked to this month...

As far as '09 coins in western NY, I've found P and D Native American dollars, P Harrison dollars, P and D District of Columbia quarters and P mint Formative Years cents. No nickels or dimes. And I'm a cashier so I get plenty of opportunity to look, and none yet. Oddly, I'm finding a lot of 2008-D dimes, which is unusual for my area. Gives me hope that maybe I'll be one of the first to uncover an 09-D dime or nickel

I have found some 2009 prez. dollars, a couple of Native American dollars, and a few 2009 P DC quarters in my area. I recently took a trip to a small town in upstate NY, and log cabin cents were EVERYWHERE. I got a few BU rolls from a bank, and then proceeded to go to a bookstore and a grocery store and get log cabins and a couple of railsplitters in my change both places. So stuff is out there, but it is hard to determine where. I too have noticed that there are a lot of BU 2008 dimes and other denominations out there. In fact, whenever a cashier busts a bu roll behind the counter, I always hope that i'll be getting some 2009s, but they tend to be 2008s. I think that this is indicative of the reserves trying to get rid of the 2008s that are still piled up first.

irs quite possible that the business strike 2009 d's will not be released until next year or even later. If no western fed puts an order in for nickels, then no new nickels will be received. Kinda like what happened to the 2001p halves. -XoG

No 2009 nickels in Maryland either. I've asked my favorite tellers at 4 banks to keep an eye out for me ..... Christmas cookies help ...... and so I am armed and ready to report the first Maryland sighting of ANY 2009 nickel. It just has not happened yet. David

Quote: Nope, the only nickels that have been sold directly were the Westward Expansion nickels a few years ago They also sold rolls of 2003 nickels.

Quote: Conder101: They also sold rolls of 2003 nickels. The 2003 to 2006 'P' and 'D' U.S. Mint Nickel roll series. A co-worker of mine recently bought a 2005-P Bison Nickel Mint-wrapper roll from a grocery store's customer service drawer for face value ($2). She happened to get a BU 2005-D Bison in her change, and she asked if there were more. They had opened the 'D' roll to use for change, but the 'P' roll was still intact!

The mint is aware of this situation and plans to increase production to stem what they call "frothing" in the market.

Quote: 2old: "The Mint is aware of this situation and plans to increase production to stem what they call "frothing" in the market." The Denver Mint has produced 46.8 million 2009-D Nickels as of August, yet you can't even find them on ebay! Increasing production isn't going to stop the 'frothing' if they all stay locked up in the Federal Reserve! Edit: 1950-D Nickel mintage = 2,630,030 Number of 1950-D Nickel listings on ebay at time of this edit = 84 1926-S Nickel mintage = 970,000 Number of 1926-S Nickel listings on ebay at time of this edit = 40 1912-S Nickel mintage = 238,000 Number of 1912-S Nickel listings on ebay at time of this edit = 24 2009-D Nickel mintage = 46,800,000 Number of 2009-D Nickel listings on ebay at time of this edit = Zero!

That was a quote from the U.S. Treasury site. I have an offer for $400.00 per box.
