Picked these up a small local coin show this morning. How do the photos look? It took me all of 10 minutes!

Graded coins are hard to photograph for me, so these are my best attempts.

Sad news. My 2 toned 1/10th gold eagles got lost on the way to a forum member who was going to submit them to PCGS for me. Good news. I found a third that was already graded.

Hopefully the other two coins will finally show up in the mail, If not what a bummer.
Why is it that an 8 year old fine gold coin can tarnish that much in such a short period of time ?
Pure Gold is pretty much impervious to oxidation/corrosion.

These are not .9999, so that might have something to do with it. I have only seen 4 or so that have been this toned.

Kingdom of Portugal, 1810 960 Reis, Rio de Janeiro mint. First year of this type, overstruck on a Potosi 8 reales. In 1807, Napoleon forced the Portuguese court into exile -- relocating to Rio de Janeiro, Portugal became the colony with the Kingdom ruled from Brazil.

I like the way the elements of the understrike toned differently so that they are more visible.

jgenn, what a wonderful, interesting piece!

I had to read Wikipedia for a while thanks to you.. mostly, because I did not know there was a 960 reis. Turns out I know a lot less than I thought about Portuguese currency. Thanks!
